Apple Murex Shells
Phyllonotus pomum
2" - 3 ½"
Lovely earth tone colors! Apple murexes are mostly tan or light brown with darker brown markings and white highlights. The shell is thick and the surface is rough. The aperture is glossy and either white, tan, or peach.
Apple murex shells are found from SE United States to Brazil in ocean water 3 to 66 feet deep. They are carnivorous and often feed on oysters by boring holes through the shell to get at the meat.
