Nutmeg melongena seashells are a lot like rock shells in appearance. Although they have a similar shape they belong to completely different families. Nutmeg melongena belong to the Melongenidae family and Rock shells belong to the Muricidae family.
These small melongena seashells are moderately thick. Their coloration ranges from brown to cream or gray, sometimes with brown bands.
Nutmeg melongena shells are found in the S.W. Pacific in shallow water and sandy mud. They are carnivorous, feeding mostly on oysters and clams.
